Sperm Donor, Accused Of Fathering 550 Children, Is Sued

Sperm Donor, Accused Of Fathering 550 Children, Is Being Sued To Cease Donations & Prevent ‘Accidental Incest’

A Dutch sperm donor accused of fathering 550 children is now facing legal action. According to Insider, the man is being sued to prevent him from continuing to donate his sperm. As well as address concerns regarding the increased possibility of “accidental incest.”

Mother & Foundation File Lawsuit Against Dutch Sperm Donor

Jonathan Jacob Meijer, the Dutch sperm donor, is reportedly being sued by the mother of one of the children he fathered. Additionally, Meijer is also being sued by Donorkind.

According to the outlet, the organization alleges the man donated sperm to at least 13 clinics in the Netherlands.

Furthermore, the organization reports that Meijer continued to donate despite being “placed on a Dutch donation blacklist” in 2021. He reportedly did so by assuming an alias via social media to communicate with prospective parents.

From there, the outlet alleges that Meijer even continued to donate his sperm abroad, in countries including Denmark and Ukraine.

Meijer now reportedly resides in Kenya.

The Concern For “Accidental Incest” Due To Meijer’s Vast Donations

According to the outlet, Donorkind guidelines maintain that sperm donors cannot father more than 25 children or impregnate more than 12 mothers. Additionally, the outlet reports that these guidelines exist to prevent “inbreeding” and “incest.”

Donorkind alleges that Meijer has fathered 550 children.

Furthermore, the organization explained that there is a significant “psychological impact” on children who learn they have “hundreds of half-siblings.” The organization’s lawyer, Mark de Hek, reportedly described Meijer’s behavior as “dangerous for the mental well-being and health of donor children.”

The Mother Behind The Lawsuit Shares Her Thoughts

According to Insider, the woman behind the lawsuit, known only as Eva, shares one child with Meijer. The child was reportedly born in 2018.

The woman alleges that Meijer assured her he only “fathered a maximum of 25 donor children.”

Additionally, Eva explained to Donorkind that she would have never chosen Meijer as her donor if she had been aware of his vast donations.

“When I think about the consequences this could have for my child, I get a bad gut feeling and I become uncertain about his future: how many more children will be added?”

Eva explained that taking legal action was the only way to protect her child.

The lawsuit requests that Meijer be banned from further sperm donations and stops communicating with prospective parents. Additionally, the suit requests that Meijer notifies clinics storing his sperm to destroy the samples immediately.
