By now we all know that Mel B and her husband Stephen Belafonte are divorcing after 10 years of marriage. Recently there have been reports of different allegations while the two were married, and this divorce definitely has the potential to get messy.
According to TMZ, the former couple shares a 5-year-old daughter named Madison and Belafonte wants joint custody, while Mel B wants sole custody.
Sources reportedly revealed that Belafonte also plans on asking a judge for visitation rights to Mel B’s 10-year-old daughter, Angel, who she shares with actor Eddie Murphy.
Belafonte believes that he has been the father in Angel’s life, seeing how he and Mel B married two months after Angel was born.
Apparently, under the California law, a stepfather can be granted “reasonable visitation,” if it is in the best interest of the child.
In a letter, Belafonte’s lawyer reportedly wrote to Mel B’s lawyer on March 31st, “Stephen would like to schedule a meeting as soon as possible to discuss the resolution of temporary issues including his ability to see Madison and Angel, whom we would appreciate continuing to have contact with.”
Sources close to TMZ claim that Mel B is opposing to Belafonte’s request to get visitation rights for Angel.
