Steve Harvey Says ‘America’s Got Talent’ Took His Concept For Their Show

Now ya’ll know Steve Harvey is no stranger to telling it like it is, and things were no different during his recent appearance on the “Earn Your Leisure” podcast.

Now ya’ll know Steve Harvey stays with a show, however, during his interview, Steve shared how the concept from one of his previous shows were taken and used for the hit series “America’s Got Talent.” He said, “In the 90s I created a show on the WB called ‘Steve Harvey’s Big Time.’ They didn’t believe me when I told them ya’ll ought to take ‘Showtime At The Apollo,’ and put it on mainstream TV, instead of having me come on a 1’o clock in the morning.”

Steve continued to say that after he was told no, he did his own version of what he was trying to portray, and that was when “Steve Harvey’s Big Time Challenge” was created.

“Along comes a show called, “America’s Got Talent,” said Steve. He proceeded to explain the concept which is also the formatting we know to take place today on AGT.

Steve explained, “That’s my IP, that’s my concept, that’s my whole thought, but I ain’t have no business for it.” He claims that the talent that was featured on AGT during its first season, were acts that appeared on his show. He added that all of the producers were taken from his show and they were given jobs at AGT.

Steve made it clear that if he understood business at the time, AGT would belong to him.
