Steve McQueen To Direct A New Tupac Shakur Documentary

The legacy of the late rapper Tupac Shakur continues to live on in many ways, and it will do so in a new documentary.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Steve McQueen, the director of “12 Years A Slave,” will direct this documentary, which is being supported by Tupac’s estate.

Tom Whalley, the trustee of Tupac’s estate and Amaru Entertainment, the company started by Tupac’s mother Afeni Shakur, announced the new project on Tuesday. White Horse Pictures and Jayson Jackson will come together to produce the documentary.

Steve McQueen said in a statement, “I am extremely moved and excited to be exploring the life and times of this legendary artist. I attended NYU film school in 1993 and can remember the unfolding hip-hop world and mine overlapping with Tupac’s through a mutual friend in a small way. Few, if any shined brighter than Tupac Shakur. I look forward to working closely with his family to tell the unvarnished story of this talented man.”

Earlier this year artists such as Snoop Dogg, T.I. and YG honored Tupac as he was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

The Benny Boom-directed biopic “All Eyez On Me,” hits theaters on June 16th, which would have been Tupac’s 46th birthday.
