Straight Outta Compton really ripped straight outta the box office as the final numbers from its debut weekend are in!
What was projected as $56.1 million as of Sunday , the final numbers has literally jumped to more than $4 million extra as of today, making the total a whopping $60.2 million victory !
According to USA Today, the huge leap has many critics amazed.
“This doesn’t happen very often, you rarely see an upturn of $4 million when the actual box office numbers come out on Monday,” says Jeff Bock, box office analyst for Exhibitor Relations. “This is a story in itself. These numbers show that this movie is far from over,” says Bock. “It’s the last blast of the summer, and this truly was a surprise.”
Just like N.W.A’s unlikely success, Straight Outta Compton more than surpassed expectations especially since the budget for the movie was only $29 million.
Of course you would have expected the whole of Compton to show out in support of the movie but according to the LA Times, the place who had the highest number one ticket sales actually happens to be on the east side!
