The View co-host Sunny Hostin is getting candid about her cosmetic surgery journey and struggles with body image. The 54-year-old television personality sat down exclusively with PEOPLE. And revealed that she underwent a breast reduction and liposuction last summer.
Hostin Said Her Decision To Undergo Cosmetic Surgery Was Due To Two Things
Hostin said down with PEOPLE and revealed that since her procedures, she feels like a “better version” of herself. Hostin also shared the two things that prompted her to firmly decide on the two cosmetic procedures.
It was a health decision and a self-care decision.
Hostin added that she thought she would feel shame for her decision. But she actually feels quite empowered and hopes her decision will positively impact others.
I thought I would feel shame, like, ‘Oh my God, I’m doing plastic surgery like all these crazy celebrities.’ But I don’t feel shame at all. And I hope sharing my story will help more people. If they’re feeling so body-conscious, the way I was — they can do what they need to do to feel better.
Hostin Candidly Shared More About Her Years Struggling With Body Image
Hostin said that she began feeling self-conscious about her body when she was growing up in New York City.
By the time I was 16, I was a double-D. I couldn’t imagine my breasts would get bigger with childbirth — however, they did.
Hostin is a mother to two children, a son named Gabriel, 20. And a daughter named Paloma, 16. She is also married to Emmanuel Hostin, 52, an orthopedic surgeon, as reported by PEOPLE.
The 54-year-old’s insecurities grew when she joined The View full-time in 2016.
My waist was small, but my top was so big I would wear a minimizer bra and a sports bra or a binder all the time. Or I would get a very large dress, and then my stylist would put clips on the back of my dress so that everything would fit.
The last straw was when she tried on a gown for the White House Correspondents’ Dinner last April, and the dress’s bra didn’t fit.
I was crying. I sat there and didn’t eat anything. I couldn’t lift my hand because my boobs were going to fall out. Bell Biv DeVoe wanted to take a picture with me. I was like, ‘Oh God, they’re going to have these pictures of my boobs hanging out.’
Hostin Got A Breast Reduction, Lift, And Liposuction On Her Chin And Waist
Hostin booked an appointment with New York City-based plastic surgeon Dr. Ryan Neinstein and breast specialist Dr. Anna Steve. On August 22, 2022, she underwent a breast reduction and lift. And also liposuction on her waist and chin.
It’s not glamorous.
The television personality reportedly hired a private nurse to assist her during her two-week-long recovery.
I was up and walking around in three days. I was back to work in two weeks, and I was doing Pilates in two months.
Hostin Couldn’t Be Happier With Her Results
Today, Hostin, who went from a G-cup to a C-cup bra size, is happier than ever.
Now I prance around nude all the time at my house — I feel great. I don’t know, you may see me naked on The View!
She admits that even her view of other celebrities and their bodies has shifted. And adds that despite what others choose to hide or be transparent about, she’s an open book.
I look through magazines and Instagram accounts. I always believed, ‘Oh, they must be clean eating.’ No, they’re not — a lot of them are taking something, or they’re getting plastic surgery. It’s their decision to keep it private. But I wanted to be really honest. And I’m so happy.
