Roommates, new information about the driver of an SUV that drove through a barricade, leaving five dead and 48 injured at a Christmas parade in Wisconsin yesterday, has been identified. According to Waukesha Police, Darrell Brooks Jr. has been identified as the suspect. He faces five counts of first-degree intentional homicide and other offenses. Waukesha Police Chief Dan Thompson spoke about the tragedy at a recent news conference sharing new findings.
“We are confident he acted alone,” said Police Chief Thompson said. “There is no evidence this is a terrorist incident.” According to CNN, Chief Thompson shared no motive is known for Darrell’s actions. However, it appears that he may have a criminal history. Reports show that the 39-year- old Milwaukee resident was involved in a domestic disturbance earlier that Sunday. He left that scene before heading to the parade.
At the time of the parade, police attempted to engage Darrell as he approached the parade in his SUV but could not prevent him from driving through the barricades. Chief Thompson gave more details stating, “When the suspect was driving through and into the crowd, one officer did discharge his firearm and fire shots at the suspect to stop the threat but due to the amount of people, had to stop, stop and fire — not fire any other additional shots.”
As of now, CNN did not list the victims’ names but reported that the five deceased victims range in age from 52 to 81 and include four women and one man. Darrell didn’t sustain any injuries during the incident. Our thoughts are with those affected by this tragedy.
