Tamar Braxton Clears The Air w/ Spice After Defending Erica Mena

Tamar Braxton Clears The Air With Spice After Playing ‘Devil’s Advocate’ & Defending Erica Mena: ‘My Job Is To Comment’

On the heels of her and Erica Mena’s explosive altercation on Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta, Spice linked up with Tamar Braxton. Tamar previously stated that “all bets [are] off” when someone brings children into a disagreement.

However, the singer acknowledged that she actually “didn’t see” the incident in question before commenting, and she brushed the matter off by saying she was just doing her job.

Tamar Braxton Admits She “Didn’t See” The Clip Before Commenting

Spice and Tamar chatted it up on Instagram Live, and the conversation touched on Braxton’s commentary about what went down between the reality stars.

As The Shade Room reported, Erica referred to Spice as a “blue monkey” after the singer said Mena’s eldest child isn’t fond of her. In turn, Erica launched the insult at Spice while being escorted outside, and she was ultimately let go after LHHATL viewers brought the backlash.

Before Erica got the boot, though, Tamar discussed the situation on Dish Nation and proceeded to “play devil’s advocate” by pushing back against people calling Erica “racist.”

“Let’s play devil’s advocate. Isn’t all bets off when somebody come for your kids? I’m sorry, I’m not watching nothing I say out of my mouth. You tell me my son don’t love me? I’m going for your neck.”

She added, “It doesn’t mean she’s racist. That’s the first thing that came to her mind to defend herself.”

On Tuesday (Sept. 5), Tamar hopped on Spice’s IG Live to clear the air.

Notably, Braxton admitted that she hadn’t seen the clip before sharing her opinion. She also noted that, while she usually “wouldn’t say anything,” it’s her “job” to “comment on what is being reported.”

“I didn’t see it. I don’t watch that show. … I wouldn’t say anything. But my job is to comment on what is being reported.”

After Spice noted that she “did not say anything bad about Erica’s son,” Tamar attempted to brush it off by saying, “You gotta take that with Mona [Scott] and her people.”

Spice Discussed How Colorism Plays Into Her Critics’ Stances

On top of Spice’s virtual meet-up with Tamar Braxton, the dancehall singer also took to IG Live to push back against some of her critics.

After declaring she is “not playing victim,” she shut down the narrative that she deserved Erica’s comments. She went on to bring colorism into the conversation, calling it “a big thing in our community.”

She then referenced her decision to speak on the issue of colorism by going through with a faux skin-lightening stunt on LHHATL.

“I realize that people prefer a lighter color, and they would pick up for someone of a lighter color over my dark skin any given day. Because there is colorism within our Black community.”

Spice speculated that people wouldn’t defend Erica’s comments toward her if she had lighter skin.

“If I looked like this, then some of the Black people who are commenting that it’s okay would not be saying what they are saying… If I looked like this on the screen, then the whole ball game would’ve changed.”

She added that “lighter-skinned [people] who have never experienced racism” seem to “have the most to say.”
