Taylor Swift to Apple: Run Me My Money!!!

Taylor Swift to Apple: Run Me My Money!!!

Looks like Taylor Swift has some words for Apple for trying to offer up her services for free!

The singer posted a letter on Tumblr to Apple called “To Apple, Love Taylor” where she talks about why she will be delaying the release of her newest album, 1989, from Apple’s new music streaming service, Apple Music.

In the letter she writes, “I’m sure you are aware that Apple Music will be offering a free 3 month trial to anyone who signs up for the service. I’m not sure you know that Apple Music will not be paying writers, producers, or artists for those three months. I find it to be shocking, disappointing, and completely unlike this historically progressive and generous company.”

Even though Swift expressed her gratitude and admiration for the company, she is upset because she feels as though three months is a very long time go without getting her coins and she shouldn’t have to work for free.

She also insists her addressing this issue isn’t because she wants to be a spoiled brat. She says it’s for the artists who are afraid to speak up against the music streaming giants.

“This is not about me. Thankfully I am on my fifth album and can support myself, my band, crew, and entire management team by playing live shows. This is about the new artist or band that has just released their first single and will not be paid for its success. This is about the young songwriter who just got his or her first cut and thought that the royalties from what would get them out of debt. This is about the producer who works tirelessly to innovate and create, just like the innovators and creators at Apple are pioneering in their field… but will not get paid for a quarter of a year’s worth of plays on his or her songs.”

According to Verge, it is reported that Apple VP Robert Kondrk, said that the absence of payment for those three months will be balanced out with higher payouts when it’s check time.

Swift still doesn’t think its fair and has called for Apple to change its policy before it’s too late. She ends her letter with a snarky but very much so validated point,

“WE DON’T ASK YOU FOR FREE IPHONES. PLEASE DON’T ASK US TO PROVIDE YOU WITH OUR MUSIC FOR NO COMPENSATION.” Let’s chat below, do you think Taylor Swift is justified in her rant?
