At the top of the week, video surveillance showed 17-year-old Hailey Morinico taking a leap of faith and pushing a bear away to protect her family’s dogs, as the bear attempted to attack the dogs at her home in Southern California. Now Hailey is speaking out about the moment that instantly went viral.
While speaking with ABC 7 News, Hailey said, “Honestly, I did not know it was a bear until right after I pushed it. I didn’t register in my head that it was a bear. I was like ‘It’s an animal and it’s taking my child’ and I pushed the bear.”
Although Hailey definitely stepped and did what needed to be done within that moment, she did walk away with some minor injuries from the incident. She ended up with a sprained finger and a scrape on her knee. Nonetheless, she said she was not trying to see the worst happen.
All of her family’s dogs and even her mother’s service dog are doing good after the incident.
“I didn’t want to know what would happen if the bear hurt her or even took her,” said Hailey. “So I had to do what I had to do.”
As we previously reported, as the video of Hailey started to go viral, Black Twitter definitely added a little seasoning to the situation and caused an old freestyle from Mystikal to trend as he talked about putting the paws on a bear.
