Texas Man Wanted By Authorities After Attempting To Divorce His Wife Without Her Knowing

Roommates, desperation can lead you to do some crazy things. One Texas man’s desperate attempt to get away from his wife in the form of a divorce has landed him on the radar of the police.
According to the New York Post, 51-year-old Paul Nixon is a wanted man for allegedly forging his wife’s name and the name of a notary on legal papers. Paul wasn’t filing just any legal documents though. He filed papers in a failed attempt to divorce his wife without telling her.
“We rarely see something like this,” Harris Country Constable Mark Herman says. “In this particular case the gentleman decided to go through a divorce but the only problem is, he left his wife out of the process. And that’s a violation of the law here in Texas.”
Authorities are looking to charge Paul with felony aggravated perjury charges after his wife contacted deputies on May 14th to report that her husband had filed and obtained a final divorce decree with court officials without her knowledge, Herman says.
“She was very surprised,” he says. “She started finding things showing that he was sending money on jewelry, so she confronted him and he told her that they were actually divorced.”
The woman contacted Harris County District Court only to find several documents with her forged signature. The couple had been married for just a couple of years.
The final divorce decree has been vacated due to the documents being filed fraudulently, meaning the couple is still legally married.
“They are still legally married,” Herman says. “The fraudulent divorce papers have been retracted.”
Paul is now facing up to 10 years in prison if convicted, and there is a no-bond warrant out for his arrest. Texas authorities are working diligently to find him.
“We’ve got teams of officers out looking for him right now.”
