‘The Chi’ Showrunner Speaks Out About Jason Mitchell’s Termination And Says She Had To Report Him To HR As Well

Recently we reported that actor Jason Mitchell was fired from the Showtime hit series, “The Chi,” as well as an upcoming Netflix film he was set to star in. Jason’s termination from both projects came following misconduct allegations.

Not many details surrounding his termination from “The Chi” have been revealed. However, the show’s runner, Ayanna Floyd spoke out about the allegations involving Jason and her own experience of having to report him to HR in a statement released through The Hollywood Reporter.

Ayanna Floyd said in her statement, “When I took the helm in season two, it was Lena who informed me of the issues between Jason Mitchell and Tiffany Boone from season one, and that Tiffany was thinking of leaving the show because of it. As a result of this information, I discussed Tiffany’s claims with the studio’s HR department and set up HR presentations for the writers, cast, and crew. Ultimately, everyone was well aware of Jason’s behavior and his multiple HR cases, including Lena, the creator and an executive producer of the show, who is very involved at the studio and network level.”

She continued, “As showrunner, I did everything I could to deal with his behavior, by speaking with the studio’s HR department multiple times and instructing one actress to call HR herself, before I became a target of his rage and inappropriateness, and had to report him to HR, as well.”

Lena Waithe also released a statement but focused on showing her support to actress Tiffany Boone, who stars as Jason’s girlfriend in the show.

In her statement, Lena said, “I think Tiffany is a wonderful actress and an extremely brave woman. I wish her nothing but success in the future. I look forward to getting back to work on season three.”

A source close to Lena reportedly said that she was made aware of the alleged ongoing conduct from the showrunner and said she would handle the matter.

In the meantime, writers are reportedly trying to figure out how to handle the disappearance of Jason’s character for the upcoming season.

THR also noted that Ayanna Floyd would not be returning next season.
