It’s been five months since the tragic shooting that took place at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, FL.
The mass shooting claimed the lives of 49 people and left 53 people injured.
Now the city of Orlando is planning to turn the nightclub into a memorial, to honor those who were involved with the shooting.
According to Rolling Stone, Buddy Dyer, the mayor of Orlando confirmed that the city has agreed to purchase the nightclub for $2.25 million, as they plan to honor the victims of the shooting.
He said they are hoping to, “create something to honor the memory of the victims that are deceased and those that were injured, and a testament to the resilience of our community.”
He continued, “There are lots of people that are making a visit to the site part of their trip, part of their experience of Orlando, so I think 12 to 18 months of leaving it as-is would be appropriate.”
The club has been empty since the June 12th shooting; the owners of the club had announced that they were making it a memorial before a rep denounced their announcement.
However, a month later the city placed a new barrier around the club allowing people to pay their respects.
This is a great way to honor those who lost their lives and those whose lives were changed forever because of the shooting.
