Today officially marks two months since Breonna Taylor was fatally shot by officers in her Louisville, KY home. Her family has filed a lawsuit against the officers involved in the shooting as they seek justice following her death.
According to CBS News, officials claim the shooting was tied to a narcotics investigation where they were looking for a completely different person.
The lawsuit says that Breonna and her boyfriend, Kenneth Walker thought they were being burglarized, and in defense, Kenneth fired his registered gun. The lawsuit says that officers fired their guns and fatally shot Breonna. The family alleges that the officers were wearing plain clothes and did not identify themselves before entering the apartment.
The Louisville Metro Police Department claims that officers knocked on the door several times and announced their presence as police with a search warrant before forcing their way into the home.
The officers involved in the shooting were placed on administrative reassignment. The lawsuit claims that the suspect that officers were searching for was already in police custody at the time of the incident. Walker was charged with assault and attempted murder on a police officer.
Breonna’s family hired attorney Brian Crump, who is also working with the family of Ahmaud Arbery, who was murdered in Georgia back in February.
Crump took to social media to comment on the matter and said:
