A small village in Ohio has hired Timothy Loehmann, the former Cleveland police officer that is responsible for shooting 12-year-old Tamir Rice back in 2014.
According to CBS News, he was hired in the village of Bellaire, which is more than 150 miles south of Cleveland. Bellaire’s police chief Richard Flanagan confirmed on Friday that he hired Loehmann as a part-time officer.
Loehmann was fired last year after he was deemed “unfit for duty” and fired for giving false information on his job application to the Cleveland Division of Police.
Subodh Chandra, the attorney for the Rice family said that Tamir’s mother Samaria Rice “believes that Timothy Loehmann does not belong on any police force, anywhere, period.”
“Someone with his record should not be subjected upon the citizenry,” Chandra said. “But she does hope that this means that he will not ever return to Cleveland.”
Tamir was playing with a pellet gun outside of a recreation center back in 2014 when Loehmann fatally shot him. A grand jury later declined to indict the officer.
