Falcons May Lose Their Super Bowl Bid Due To Religious Exemptions Bill

If you’re an ATLien, then I’m sure you’ve seen the new Mercedes-Benz stadium being constructed. There’s so much talk about how epic it will be to hold a Super Bowl there! Unfortunately, the chances of that happening are very slim unless Governor Deal vetoes House Bill 757. It is a “religious freedom” bill which gives those who identify with a religion to exercise their faith, even if that means totally excluding non-believers.

Falcons owner, Arthur Blank, gave a statement explaining that due to House Bill 757, many NFL fans run the risk of being discriminated against. “I strongly believe a diverse, inclusive and welcoming Georgia is critical to our citizens and the millions of visitors coming to enjoy all that our great state has to offer,” Blank said on Friday. “House Bill 757 undermines these principles and would have long-lasting negative impact on our state and the people of Georgia.”

Needless to say, many business owners are not here for this bill. The Atlanta Hawks and the Atlanta Braves have also released a statements urging Governor Deal to not pass the bill as it will harm their business.

“The Atlanta Braves organization believes that House Bill 757 is detrimental to our community and bad for Georgia,” the statement reads. “Our organization believes in an environment that is inclusive of all people. In addition to allowing discrimination against citizens of this state, the bill will have a profoundly negative impact on our organization.”

Governor Dea has until May 3rd to sign off on the bill. NFL owners will vote on a home for the 2019 and 2020 Super Bowls on May 23rd, so may the odds be ever in your favor, Atlanta!
