The Katy Perry Shoes That People Are Accusing Of Resembling ‘Blackface’ To Be Pulled From Shelves

#Gucci, #Prada and other brands are under fire right now for being accused of using blackface in their designs, and now you can add #KatyPerry to the list.

In case y’all didn’t know, Katy’s got a whole shoe line for sale at retailers including #Dillards and #Walmart. Well, #MasikaKalysha among others pointed out that the shoe resembles blackface and now the loafers are expected to be yanked from shelves, according to @tmz_tv.

The face on the shoes has two eyes, a nose and red lips on them. They come in two different colors, black and beige, but people feel the black ones are problematic because it looks like classic blackface makeup, which the fashion world seems to keep overlooking when they design these things.

Sources connected to Katy said the specific shoes are just part of an entire line of shoes she has designed and released and they were never intended to be offensive. But in light of the criticism she has received for the “face” heeled sandals, sources said, “In order to be respectful and sensitive the team is in the process of pulling the shoes.”

Katy is following what other designers have done in the midst of the controversy, which is pulling the clothing or accessory items in question from stores.

Prada was called out for having monkey like characters as part of their collection that resemble blackface and just recently Gucci  produced a black turtleneck with big red lips where the mouth would go.

The designs have caused widespread outrage, prompting prominent figures such as Spike Lee and T.I to call for boycotts of the popular brands. TIP has even taken things a step further by asking his followers to support black-owned brands instead.

And just recently, Dapper Dan announced that he will be taking a meeting with the heads of Gucci to discuss the matter.

#Roommates, are you currently boycotting Gucci or any other brands? Let us know!
