On Thursday, Donald Trump raised a few eyebrows as he spoke at the White House’s daily briefing on the coronavirus. As we previously reported, he suggested using UV lights or injecting disinfectants into a person that has been affected by the virus.
Strangely enough, Trump’s suggestion not only caused a conversation as many people gave him the side-eye, but it also led to RB, the makers of Lysol and Dettol, releasing a statement to reassure everyone that their products are NOT meant for internal use, despite Trump’s suggestion.
On Friday, the company posted the statement on their official website, and said, “As a global leader in health and hygiene products, we must be clear that under no circumstance should our disinfectant products be administered into the human body (through injection, ingestion or any other route). As with all products, our disinfectant and hygiene products should only be used as intended and in line with usage guidelines. Please read the label and safety information. We have a responsibility in providing consumers with access to accurate, up-to-date information as advised by leading public health experts.”
Following his remarks, you know social media went to work and did what they did best, which is making jokes out of the situation, to help everyone cope with things as we all continue to make our way through this pandemic.
People used their creativity to make light of the situation as they turned popular cleaning products into different medical treatments in the form of social media memes.
Many celebrities also criticized Trump for his suggestion. Spike Lee said, “Our President Of These United States Is Not A Medical Doctor Or A Scientist. This Morning LYSOL Had To Put Out A Press Release Telling The American Public Their Product Is Not To Be Ingested For Treatment For DA ’19’ On The Lysol Can I’m Holding, It Reads And I Quote ‘Precautionary Statements-Hazards To Humans And Domestic Animals’. This Is Another Reckless Act That Threatens The Health And Safety Of Americans. WTF!!!!”
