Roommates, many are still processing Donald Trump’s recent comments regarding injecting disinfectant to treat coronavirus. After the extremely widespread backlash, the White House has now released a statement saying that Trump’s comments were “taken out of context.”
Donald Trump was at the center of intense backlash after recently suggesting that sunlight, high humidity or possibly an “injection” of “the disinfectant that knocks it out in a minute” could be COVID-19 treatments. Almost immediately, medical experts and even the makers of disinfectant sprays such as Lysol, called Trump’s comments dangerous or even deadly—and advised Americans not to try out his suggestion.
Now, the White House is coming to the rescue in an attempt to clarify remarks that the entire country heard Trump say:
“President Trump has repeatedly said that Americans should consult with medical doctors regarding coronavirus treatment, a point that he emphasized again during yesterday’s briefing. Leave it to the media to irresponsibly take President Trump out of context and run with negative headlines.”
Then, Trump himself offered even more clarification by claiming that he was only being “sarcastic” in his response:
“I was asking the question sarcastically to reporters like you, just to see what would happen. I was asking a very sarcastic question to the reporters in the room about disinfectant on the inside. But it does kill it, and it would kill it on the hands, and that would make things much better. That was done in the form of a sarcastic question to the reporters.”
Another day, another Trump circus.
