The Woman Who Took The Trader Joe’s Photo Of Geoffrey Owens Apologizes And Says She Didn’t Mean To Shame Him

After the photo of former Cosby Show actor Geoffrey Owens went viral. He was met with support from his peers within the entertainment industry, as well as many fans.

Now the woman who took the photo is speaking out, and she says that when she took the photo, it wasnt to shame the actor, and shes now apologetic for her actions.

NJ.com sat down with Karma Lawrence, the woman who snuck the photo of the actor inside of the grocery store. In the interview, she revealed that she has been getting so much hate since the photos have spread.

She said, I dont know why I snuck a picture. I figured everybody does it. I dont know what possessed me. I just did it. I didnt even think about it. I just kind of did it on impulse and it was a bad impulse.

She says she didnt know that the photos would stir up the act of job shaming. In fact, she said that she loves Trader Joes and sees no shame in Owens working there. Sheactually thought because he was working there his residuals may have been cut because of everything surrounding Bill Cosby.

It wasnt malicious. Thats on my kids, my grandkids, my parents. Im not that type of a person. Im not the monster theyre making me out to be, said Lawrence.

She also revealed that since the incident, she has turned off all of her social media accounts, and it has been hard for her to sleep knowing that she unintentionally hurt one of her favorite characters from the Cosby Show.

If given the chance to speak with Owens, Lawrence said, “I would tell him, I am extremely, extremely apologetic about what has happened, and if I could take it back, I would.
