Tia Mowry Celebrates Juneteenth With Heartwarming Message
The actress and mother of two took to Instagram on June 19, opening up in a personal post about her journey as a mixed-race Black woman. And let’s just say… she didn’t hold back. Alongside a carousel of family photos — including throwbacks with twin sister Tamera Mowry, pics of her kids, and moments with her parents — Tia reflected on the experiences that shaped how she sees herself.
“There were moments I questioned where I belonged,” she wrote. “Even as a mixed kid, I knew I was Black. But growing up, the world around me didn’t always reflect that back to me. I had to go on a journey to fully understand who I was and what it meant to walk through this world as a Black woman.”

Tia Reflects On Her Heritage & Identity
Tia also spoke on not always feeling “Black enough” and shared real moments from her childhood that highlighted the different ways her parents were treated — yep, even as a kid, she picked up on how the world moved differently based on skin color.
“As a kid, I noticed the difference. When I was with my mom, who’s Black, she was treated with suspicion. Not receiving an application for our dream home. Questions in first class. But with my white dad, people were welcoming. That’s when I realized how much the color of your skin shapes how the world treats you.”
And it wasn’t just about the past. Tia also revealed some powerful truths she’s discovered about her ancestry, with roots in places like Ghana, Nigeria, and the Bahamas. Now, as a mom, she’s even more locked in on making sure her kids know their history, feel proud of who they are, and understand why Juneteenth matters on a deeper level.
“It made me want to be loud about my pride,” she added. “To be Black and proud. To celebrate where I come from. And to use my voice and platform to make sure my community is seen, heard, and celebrated.”
