Tiffany Haddish Corrects Reporter Who Called Her Dolce & Gabbana Dress “A Little Costume Change”

By now folks should know, Tiffany Haddish is going to speak her mind every time! This was certainly the case when the comedian checked a reporter on the red carpet. Tiff graced the red carpet at the Vanity Fair Oscars after-party on Sunday. She took a moment to speak with Entertainment Tonight’s Lauren Zima. As the comedian approached the carpet’s sidelines, Lauren opened their conversation with the line: “you do a little costume change.”

Oscar Night Fits

Tiffany joined entertainment industry peers at the 94th annual Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars, on Sunday evening. For the award show, the actress wore a curve-hugging, strapless, dark-green sequined gown.

By the time she walked the after-party carpet, Tiffany had switched evening gowns. She kept the same style: strapless and curve-hugging. The upper half of her gown was covered in emerald-colored gems, while the bottom half was covered in lime green glittery fabric. The difference in these dresses was the “costume change” ET’s Lauren pointed out.

Tiffany Corrects Reporter

“I’m not wearing a costume. I’m wearing Dolce & Gabbana, ” Tiffany responded to Lauren’s question. “It’s called an evening gown darling. No one’s paying me for this. I paid for it. It’s custom. Thank you.”

While Tiffany responded, Lauren playfully bent herself backwards and looked around. Her reaction seemed to be highlighting her embarrassment. After Tiff’s correction, Lauren said “time of death for me right now.” She followed up with, “you look gorgeous.”

But Tiffany continued her correction. She let Lauren know “this is not an acting gig,” but instead “her life.”

“This what fame look like. This what success look like,” Tiffany said as she looked at Lauren and into ET’s camera. She continued, “This what money look like. This what it look like, this what it look like.”

With her eyebrows raised and head cocked to the side, Tiffany put on the light press. Lauren, in what seems like an attempt to add comedic relief, used Tiff’s words to tell a joke.
“When is your book coming out called ‘This What It Look Like’ and I’ll just read the entire book…,” Lauren said. Tiffany interrupted saying, “That book’s not coming no time soon, but ‘I Curse You With Joy’ will be out in November.”
Breaking The Awkward Moment
At this point, the interview seemed to get a little awkward as Lauren attempted to move the conversation in another direction. But Tiffany seemed to have her own questions for the interviewer. After discussing why Lauren wasn’t wearing shoes on the carpet sidelines, Tiffany checked for any bad blood between them.
“I appreciate you,” Tiffany said with a smile. Then, she asked Lauren “you’re not uncomfortable in any way?” When the ET’s correspondent said no, Tiff responded “I know cause you not wearing no heels, you comfortable than a mug.”
“I’m uncomfortable, but I look good,” she said. “This what it look like.”

Tiffany Comments On Will & Chris Incident
As the interview developed, the women spoke about the Oscars’ most shocking moment of the night: Will Smith slapping Chris Rock.

“I would define tonight as a success,” Tiffany said. “First of all, I have seen a man stand up for his wife, which we don’t see that much anymore. That made me have hope.”

The comedian confirmed that she spoke with Will and Jada following the altercation and they’re aware of her support.

“I just know she better take care of business when they get home, ’cause I know I would if my man did that for me,” Tiff said. “I’m just saying. Hello!”

Tiffany also spoke about watching Will give his Oscar winner speech.

“I felt very proud. I felt gratified, and I just hope more men are like that — care about their families. It’s not just about you, right? It’s not just about you, sir. What about your family? The people you create? The people that help you be who you are? That’s important. That’s what I think America forgot about,” Tiffany said.
