#Roommates, the ongoing war between TikTok and Trump just took another unexpected turn. According to an exclusive new report, following Trump’s recent claims that he plans to permanently ban TikTok if it isn’t sold within 45 days—the social media app is reportedly moving forward with an official lawsuit.
@NPR reports, TikTok has made its next move in regards to being banned—and that now includes filing a lawsuit against the Trump administration. TikTok is said to be filing the federal lawsuit as early as August 11th, according to sources who are directly involved with the situation, but chose to remain anonymous. The lawsuit will be filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California, where TikTok’s American operations are based.
Additionally, the terms of the lawsuit will reportedly argue that Trump’s decision to permanently ban the app in the U.S. is unconstitutional because it failed to give the company a chance to respond. It further alleges that the administration’s national security justification for the order is baseless. “It’s based on pure speculation and conjecture,” the source said. “The order has no findings of fact, just reiterates rhetoric about China that has been kicking around.”
Meanwhile, the White House has declined to comment on the expected litigation but still defended Trump’s executive order.
“The Administration is committed to protecting the American people from all cyber related threats to critical infrastructure, public health and safety, and our economic and national security,” according to White House spokesman Judd Deere.
