Todd Chrisley Speaks On Prison Injustice After Pardon
On Friday, May 30, Todd attended his first press conference since being released from prison. With his daughter, Savannah, by his side, the reality star candidly spoke out about his time at the Pensacola Federal Prison Camp. But instead of discussing his own struggles, Todd chose to focus on what he deemed a bigger issue: the racial inequality he claims runs rampant in the system.
“Being in the prison system, anyone that says that it’s a fair shake, it’s not,” Todd told reporters. He continued that young Black inmates were getting the short end of the stick, naming examples such as being denied access to programming and opportunities he was granted.
“They were denied programming. They were denied access to certain things,” he added. “I was not denied that, but we know why I wasn’t denied that.”
Todd’s calling it like he saw it. He hinted at the privilege he experienced, which left such a strong impression on him that he wants to do something about it. Now, let’s not forget, the 56-year-old and his wife, Julie, were facing 12 and 7 years, respectively, after being found guilty of bank fraud and tax evasion in June 2022. But even with such a significant crime, Todd revealed that his treatment in prison was still better than what a Black inmate would have had to endure.
He wasn’t done, though. The Georgia native added, “I think that that is a much bigger picture that we all as a society as a whole need to look at: that we are one.”
Savannah Speaks On Her Family’s Plan For Prison Reform
Savannah, who’s been documenting much of her dad’s freedom on social media, wasn’t just there for moral support. She came with just as much enthusiasm for her dad’s mission to raise awareness about what’s happening in prisons regarding racial injustice. And their focus is not just on the facility where Todd stayed, but across the country.
“We’re gonna be in D.C., and Mom and Dad are now along for the ride, because we’re not leaving those men and women behind,” she said, per Entertainment Weekly. “There’s too much work that needs to be done. There’s too much reform that needs to be done.”
