Tribeca Film Festival Set To Honor John Singleton With A Screening Of ‘Boyz N The Hood’

Many people are still mourning the shocking passing of John Singleton. Throughout the week, many of his peers have paid tribute to the legendary director as they remembered all of the contributions he has made to the culture. Now the Tribeca Film Festival is doing their part to honor him.

According to Vibe, on Thursday, the Tribeca Film Festival announced that they would be doing a free screening of John’s classic 1991 film “Boyz N The Hood.”

The festival’s co-founder Jane Tribeca said in a statement, “John Singleton accomplished what all creators strive to do. He entertained but also inspired a generation of audiences. As the first African-American and youngest director to be nominated for an Academy Award at the age of 24, he allowed so many to envision themselves as change-makers. We want to celebrate him as we consider the legacy that he has left behind and so the Festival is adding a free screening of BOYZ N THE HOOD on Friday, May 3rd for the community to come together, see his pivotal film, and honor John.”

“Boyz N The Hood” stars Ice Cube, Cuba Gooding Jr., Morris Chestnut, and Nia Long. The film went on to receive to nominations at the 1992 Academy Awards.

John passed away earlier this week after suffering from a coma. News had broke that he was on life support and unresponsive. Shortly after the news, his family made the decision to take him off so he could rest peacefully.

We continue to send our condolences to the Singleton family during this difficult time.
