TSR Foodies: Wendy’s Temporarily Pulls Burgers Off Menu In Some Locations Due To Meat Shortages Amid Coronavirus Pandemic

If tissue and disinfectant wipes shortage was a concern, go ‘head and add burgers to the list. According to reports, Wendy’s is temporarily taking burgers off of the menu in some locations.

Many meat plants have closed because workers have become infected with COVID-19. Since Wendy’s relies on fresh meat, this has directly affected the food chain.

“Around 1,000, or 18%, of Wendy’s 5,500 US restaurants are not serving any hamburgers or other meat-based items, according to an analysis of online menus at every location conducted by financial firm Stephens.”

Shortages have been seen in California, Kentucky, and South Carolina.

“Some of our menu items may be in short supply from time to time at some restaurants in this current environment,” Wendy’s stated to Restaurant Business.  “We expect this to be temporary, and we’re working diligently to minimize the impact to our customers and restaurants.”

Wendy’s may be running low, but McDonald’s says there is “no break in supply” for any food or other supplies, according to Restaurant Business.

The shortage of Wendy’s burger comes after reports surfaced that about 5,000 meat and poultry plant workers became infected with COVID-19, in over 100 plants across 19 states, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Many of the nation’s largest meat processing plants have temporarily shut down operations due to the viral outbreak.

The closures have also caused a 25% of pork production decrease  and 10% of beef production in the U.S, according to Bloomberg.

Just something else to add to the running list of thangs that keep happening in 2020…
