Roommates, while a McDonald’s customer may have thought she was shaming a young man in Fayetteville, Georgia, she actually helped to turn his life around for the better!
According to WSB TV, 21-year-old McDonald’s employee and father, Simon Childs, was sleeping in a booth in the restaurant during his lunch break, when a customer posted his photo on Facebook.
The picture shortly went viral, and members of the Fayetteville community gathered to help Simon, whose mother recently passed away.
“It kind of hurt to see my picture up there, you know,” he said. “I thought it was something negative and nobody would care about it.”
The woman who shared the picture had reportedly posted it in a private Facebook group with the caption:
“Just another reason for me to leave Fayetteville. I was in the McDonald’s in the middle of town and I saw this guy sleeping in the booth, I go and tell an employee that someone is asleep in their booth and her response was ‘oh yeah, we know him, its ok’ and I said, ‘not really but whatever.'”
Although the photo did get a large reaction, it was not in favor of the woman who posted. Local residents who are part of the group quickly learned about Simon’s story and reportedly arranged for donations of diapers, supplies and clothes for his son. Some people even donated hotel rooms, and a local restaurant owner loaned Simon a car.
“They changed my life in just a couple of days,” Simon said.
A reporter from WSB 2 did catch up with the woman who posted the photo. She now claims her intention was not to shame Simon, and that she posted the image to a private group.
