TSR Positive Images: Hampton University Is Offering Free Enrollment, Room And Board To Displaced University Of Bahamas Students

TSR Positive Images: What can I say, HBCUs just do it better. The historic Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia, is opening its doors to University Of Bahamas students who have been displaced by Hurricane Dorian.

It’s beautiful to see a Black college step up and help victims of Hurricane Dorian in the name of education.

The universities are hammering out those final details in an agreement which will allow displaced students from the Bahamas’ flagship university to receive admission, room and board for one semester.

“We talked last night and this morning, and (University of Bahamas President Rodney Smith) described that the school’s north campus was virtually destroyed,” Hampton President William Harvey told WTKR. “I think this agreement is something that can be helpful to a great number of students and families, and is part of something I’ve tried to do my entire career — helping people to achieve and meet their goals.”

Smith happens to be a former Hampton vice president.

The agreement will also allow students wishing to remain at Hampton University continued enrollment at regular rates for tuition and fees.
