Last Thursday, the Tim Tebow Foundation held an international event called Night to Shine where kids with special needs in Haiti got to have a night of fun at prom! It’s complete with a red carpet, paparazzi…the whole shebang. This year’s event was a success, taking place in over 200 churches around the world.
Tebow visited Good morning America last week where he told of his inspiration behind Night to Shine. “My inspiration was when I was 15 years old and I was at a school in a remote village in the Philippines. There was a boy who was shunned out of the event because his feet were on backwards. What we want to do is fight for the people who can’t fight for themselves. That’s what it’s all about.”
Tobow actually shared his first prom experience with the children who attended the myLIFEspeaks campus in Neply last Thursday. He was home schooled and never attended his prom, so this was very special for everyone!
According to Refinery 29, Photographer Sara Beth Turner told them, “All participants were crowned as either king or queen, as [Tim] Tebow noted that ‘in the kingdom of God, all are royalty.'” She noticed the next morning that the children were “proudly” still wearing their adornments from the previous night. “For the majority, if not all, of these children, it’s the first time in their life they were able to not only dress up, but also be celebrated and honored.”
What an amazing act of kindness! I’m sure those children will always cherish that moment, because it’s not every day that you get taken out by a football player 😉
