TSR Updatez: ‘The Ellen Show’ opened an investigation into numerous claims of racism, discrimination, and mistreatment in the workplace, and after just a few weeks, the show had made the decision to fire three of its senior producers for their misconduct.
According to Variety, executive producers Ed Galvin, Kevin Leman, and co-executive producer Jonathan Norman, have all been released from their duties at Ellen. A Warner Bros. spokesperson confirms that they have “parted ways” with the show, as their names were cites multiple times in the initial story that BuzzFeed published about the questionable behavior on the show.
The three producers were initially suspended when the allegations came out, and have now been terminated. Ellen reportedly broke the news to the rest of her over 200 staff members Monday afternoon, saying she was “not perfect” and that hearing about the disturbing allegations was “heartbreaking.”
During the same meeting, executive producers Mary Connelly and Andy Lassner, who still have their jobs at the studio, addressed the results of the studio’s internal investigation. The results reportedly show that there was no evidence of “systemic” racism on the show, despite interviewing more than 100 people connected to the show. There was, however, an understanding that the show needs to make more of an effort when it comes to diversity and inclusion.
As we previously reported, Ellen was contemplating ending her show amid the disturbing allegations, but it looks like they will continue on into a new season. Variety reports that during the meeting, DeGeneres said that she was proud of the show’s success, and said: “This will be the best season we’ve ever had.”
