In a week filled with stories about violence and divisiveness, lies a sweet picture captured by a woman who saw a moment of humanity and needed to share.
In the picture, which was captured at a doctor’s office in Alabama, a white man is seen holding a black woman’s baby so that she could fill out paperwork. “The man went over there and rocked and loved on that baby like it was his,” wrote Natasha Wilson under her now viral #Facebook post.
According to her post, the woman walked in the waiting room of the doctor’s office with her sleeping baby and when they handed her paperwork to do, she sat there trying to figure out how to hold her baby while filling out the paperwork. Then the man pictured, from across the room, asked the woman if she would like for him to hold her baby while she did her paperwork.
According to Wilson, the woman received his offer for help warmly. She smiled at him and told him that would be “wonderful.”
“My heart melted!!! Racism is still VERY real in our society today BUT THIS MAN GAVE ME HOPE & a sweet memory I’ll never forget!!,” Natasha said. “If you know this man tell him what an amazing person he is!!”
The photo has united more than 1 million people now and has been shared more than 420,000 times as well as received nearly 100,000 comments from people all over the world.
One Facebook user said, “We still have wonderful, compassionate people in this world. This just put a smile on my face.”
It’s not often a kind gesture gets candidly captured but were thankful this woman snapped a pic and reminded us that people do make the world go round!
