#TSRPositiveImages: City Of Las Vegas Will Now Let Drivers Pay Parking Tickets With School Supplies Donation

#TSRPositiveImages: There’s nothing worse than having to pay a parking ticket, especially for the smallest parking violation, but it’s an ‘L’ we’ve all had to take.

What probably irks us the most is that we’re forced to pay our hard earned cash for one lil’ slip up to the government. But imagine if your money went to something you felt was worthwhile–like the future. Well, now the city of #LasVegas is doing something innovative and hopefully, other cities will follow suit.

Las Vegas’ city council voted to allow people to make school supplies donations in place of paying that pesky parking ticket, according to @goodmorningamerica. Traffic offenders “may satisfy their tickets by bringing new, unwrapped school supplies of equal or greater value to their fine to the Parking Service Office” the city council said in its memo. The supplies will be taken in by the city and then donated to the Teachers Exchange, which is a nonprofit associated with the Public Education Foundation.

Accepted supplies include pencils, pens, erasers, dry erase markers, index cards, paper towels, copy paper, rulers, scissors and Post-it Notes. The catch is, the deal is only around until July 19 and donations must be made within 30 days of the citation.

Apparently, this has been in the works. The unconventional program comes after a string of trial runs approved by the city council since July 2016.

Do you think this is something other cities should adopt? Let us know!
