#TSRTech: Wanna Blue Check Mark? Instagram Just Opened Up Its Verification Process!

#TSRTech: Y’all have been waiting for it, and now it’s finally here! Instagram has just announced that it’s opening up its verification process and giving users the ability to request verification directly through the app.

Instead of waiting for IG to deem you “blue check” worthy, the platform has now enabled an option to allow users to apply for a badge.

Now to get approved, your account has to adhere to Instagram’s terms of service and community guidelines. “A verified badge is a check that appears next to an Instagram account’s name in search and on the profile. It means Instagram has confirmed that an account is the authentic presence of the public figure, celebrity or global brand it represents,” Instagram explained. “We look at a number of factors when evaluating Instagram accounts to determine if they’re in the public interest and meet our verification criteria.”

If you don’t get approved the first time, don’t worry you can try again. “Once we review your request, you’ll receive a notification letting you know if your account has been verified or not. If your request is denied, you can submit a new request after 30 days,” the social network wrote.

“To access the verification request form, go to your profile, tap the menu icon, select “Settings” at the bottom and then choose “Request Verification.” You will need to provide your account username, your full name and a copy of your legal or business identification,” Chief technology officer Mike Krieger wrote in a blog post.

Two other IG updates include an “About This Account” feature and Support for Third-Party Authenticator Apps.
