#TSRUpdatez: Protestors Shut Down Pittsburgh Highway In Search Of Justice For Antwon Rose

#Roommates, if you haven’t heard of #AntwonRose yet, let’s get caught up. Antwon was an unarmed, 17-year-old boy who was killed at the hands of police in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Authorities alleged that he ran away from police during a traffic stop which prompted them to shoot him three times in the back. Antwon’s story has since made national news, but his city has been unifying to fight for justice in his name.

On the 20th, demonstrators shut down Electric Avenue, the street Antwon was killed on. On the 21st, protestors swarmed the City-County building — shutting down Grant St., for a rally to get the Allegheny County District Attorney Stephan Zapalla to file charges against the officer who shot and killed Antown Rose. Later that day, they shut down Parkway East — in both directions.

Local news reported around 9 p.m. Thursday: “Protesters have now spilled onto the Parkway East. Traffic has been forced to stop because people are in the road.” Protestors took shifts throughout the evening to ensure that their message was heard. Around 2:15 a.m., additional police showed up to the scene in riot gear. According to reports, only one arrest was made. By 2:45 a.m. all protestors had been cleared and traffic was able to flow again.

Rest in peace, young king, Antwon Rose.
