Two Local Funeral Homes Announce They Will Not Charge The Families Of The Uvalde, Texas School Shooting Victims 

As many families in the Uvalde, TX area mourn the loss of their loved ones after the tragic shooting that took place Tuesday at Robb Elementary School, two local funeral homes share that they will not be charging the victims’ families, that unfortunately, lost their lives.

According to NBC News, Hillcrest Memorial Funeral Home and Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary announced that they would not be charging the victims’ families as they offer their services.

Hillcrest said in a statement,

“We have fought together as a community, and we will pull together as one now in our time of need.”

Along with Hillcrest, Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary announced they wouldn’t charge Uvalde families for funeral services.

“Not one family will be charged for our services.”

Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary added that they were there to assist the mourning community.

“For over 60 years, we have supported Uvalde and beyond. Today, our resolve is stronger than ever. We are here for the people of Uvalde, and our professionals are currently at Robb Elementary assisting law enforcement. As the situation develops and we have the opportunity to assist our community, not one family will be charged for our services.”

Uvalde Shooting Death Toll Rises

As previously reported, the death toll in the shooting has now risen to 19 children and two adults.

Officials have identified the suspected shooter in the incident as 18-year-old Salvador Ramos, who was killed in response to the shooting.

NBC News reports that an off-duty Customs and Border Protection agent with the Border Patrol Tactical Unit (BORTAC) was involved in killing the suspect. The off-duty agent and two law enforcement officers entered the school during the shooting and fired at the suspect, who had been shooting from behind a barricade.

The agent was subsequently shot and injured during the process. Reportedly, his injuries weren’t fatal. Sources say the agent was able to help “eliminate the threat.”
