Uber Officially Extending Its “No Mask, No Ride” Policy Indefinitely As COVID-19 Cases Continue To Rise

#Roommates, if you’re a regular Uber rider you might want to stock up on masks…or else you won’t be riding at all. Uber just announced plans to extend its current “No Mask, No Ride” policy for customers in an effort to stop the increasing spread of COVID-19.

@USAToday reports, popular ride-sharing company Uber has recently made the decision to extend its current mask-wearing requirement indefinitely throughout both the U.S. and Canada. The company previously stated that the requirement for drivers and riders to wear masks at all times during rides was to last through June—however, as the country continues to see alarming spikes of COVID-19 cases, Uber now says the requirement will be the standard for the foreseeable future.

In a statement regarding the policy extension, Uber explained that “Extending our ‘No Mask, No Ride’ policy is the right thing to do. We want to send a clear message to everyone using Uber that we all have a role to play to keep each other safe.”

In addition to the extension, the company has also launched a campaign on TV, social media and in the app called “No Mask. No Ride,” which features drivers and Uber Eats delivery people working during the pandemic.

Uber’s decision was heavily influenced based on guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention—who note that Texas, Florida, New Mexico and California are among the states with COVID-19 infections increasing rapidly.
