One lucky lottery winner there is just hours away from losing out on $1 million! The winning #Powerball ticket was sold by the #LouisianaLottery in August at a convenience store in New Orleans, according to @Nypost.
The winning ticket is set to expire at 5 p.m. Thursday, nearly six months after the winner matched all five numbers–02-25-54-57-63– and the Powerball of 8, according to lottery officials. So either someone doesn’t want their money, or that ticket is LOST lost.
If the winner never comes forward to claim the prize, the $1 million bag would be the largest unclaimed prize in Louisiana since a $3 million ticket went unidentified in 2012, lottery officials said.
Officials announced last month that they were still looking for whoever bought the winning numbers for the Aug. 25 drawing from the Ideal Mart in New Orleans.
“We look forward to the winner coming forward to claim this prize,” lottery president Rose Hudson said in a statement. “It is also a good idea to sign the back of the ticket for security purposes.”
The winning ticket from August is the first $1 million Powerball prize sold at that convenience store, Annison said.
Winners of the lottery’s so-called “draw-style” games have 180 days to claim prizes. If the deadline is missed, the cash is deposited into the lottery’s unclaimed prize fund, which goes toward increased payouts for scratch-off games and other promotions, according to lottery officials.
