Drake's Lawyer: XXXTentacion Deposition Is For Making Headlines

UPDATE: Drake’s Attorney Claims New Deposition In XXXTentacion Murder Trial Is Just Meant For ‘Generating Headlines’

Drake’s lawyer appears to be working overtime, even after a judge in the XXXTentacion murder trial granted Drizzy’s motion to avoid a deposition, as reported by The Shade Room last week.

Well, now it looks like he may have to sit for one after all.

Drake Now Scheduled To Appear For Deposition On Friday, Attorney Claims It’s All For Headlines

Process servers reportedly attempted to serve Drake with a subpoena at his Beverly Hills home on Valentine’s Day, which his staff fiercely rejected. According to court docs, Drake’s security guards kicked the subpoena down his driveway after servers attempted to get the papers to the ‘I’m Too Sexy’ rapper.

Drake is now scheduled to appear for a deposition on Friday, which his attorney argues is only a way “to inject celebrity spectacle into an otherwise routine trial and generate headlines into the case.”

According to the Miami Herald, Mauricio Padilla, lawyer for Dedrick Williams, one of the three men accused of murdering XXXTentacion, issued a motion last week requiring Drake to deliver a deposition.

Drake’s Armed Guards Kicked Subpoena Down His Driveway After Server Arrived On Valentine’s Day

In court documents shared on Twitter Monday by Los Angeles Magazine legal reporter, Meghann Cuniff, Padilla recalled how an attempt was made to serve the subpoena to Drake outside his California home on Valentine’s Day.

However, “armed guards” reportedly not only sent away the servers but also kicked the subpoena down the driveway.

“The process server was met by armed guards who refused to accept service,” Padilla wrote in the document shared by Cuniff. “The armed guards closed the colossal gate in the process server’s face.

Padilla added: “after having the gate shut in his face, the process server posted the subpoena, only to have one of Mr. Graham’s security staff literally kick the subpoena down the long driveway.”

“Apparently, Drake’s staff believes that physically kicking the subpoena is a legally sound way of refusing service,” Padilla went on to say.

Meanwhile, Drake’s representatives have not yet responded to a request for comment on the matter.

Four Suspects Nabbed Two Months After XXXTentacion’s Shooting Death, Claim No Connection To Drake

XXX, real name Jahseh Onfroy, was shot and killed outside of a motorcycle dealership in Deerfield Beach, Florida, on June 18, 2018. He was just 20 years old.

The young rapper was leaving the dealership when his car was blocked by an oncoming SUV. Two masked gunmen then confronted Onfroy, fatally shooting him, before stealing the rapper’s personal belongings – later discovered to be a bag containing $50,000 in cash – and fleeing the scene, The Shade Room reported at the time.

In August 2018, two months after Onfroy’s death, four suspects — Michael Boatwright, Dedrick Williams, Robert Allen, and Trayvon Newsome — were arrested and charged with first-degree murder, robbery, and firearm charges.

Allen, who turned state’s witness, told the court last week that the group had not been hired by anyone to kill XXXTentacion, after one of their defense attorneys tried to claim Drake had hired them to kill XXX, The Shade Room reported earlier this week.

Rapper Once Posted That Drake Would Be To Blame If He Ever Ended Up Dead

The two artists had been feuding at the time of latter’s death, with XXX at one point accusing Drizzy of stealing his lyrics or style, spurring speculation that Drake hired them to kill his rap rival.

And casting more suspicion is a the fact that XXX stated on social media in Feb. 2018 that if he ever ended up dead, Drake would be the reason behind it, Padilla said during the first day of the trial on February 7.

Onfroy was killed just months after that post in June 2018.

The rapper, whose real name is Jahseh Onfroy, once stated on social media that if he ever ended up dead, Drake would be the reason behind it.

However, he later retracted that bold statement.

“If anyone tries to kill me it was @champagnepapi [Drake’s Instagram handle]. I’m snitching right now.” Onfroy posted before deleting it, along with a few other incendiary posts.

Trial Watch: Murder Of XXXTentacion And Court Developments

XXX was ambushed after leaving the store in his BMW as Williams cut off the rapper’s sports car with his SUV, while Boatwright and Newsome rushed XXXTentacion’s car to rob him, prosecutor Pascale Achille said in court last Tuesday.

The trio ended up stealing about $50,000 that XXXTentacion had in a Louis Vuitton bag before Boatwright shot him multiple times “without any provocation,” Achille said, The Shade Room reported.

The three were tied to the shooting through surveillance footage and cellphone pinging spots, as well as the testimony of Robert Allen.

Allen took a plea deal and is expected to testify during the trial, Achille said.

The rapper was a platinum-selling rising star who’s music explored themes of prejudice and depression in his songs. However, XXX drew widespread criticism over multiple arrests, including allegations and arrests for severely beating up and abusing his girlfriend.
