Video Surfaces Of Daniel Prude Dying Of Suffocation After Rochester Police Put A Hood Over His Head During An Arrest Back In March

Roommates, another tragedy involving a Black man dying at the hands of the police has been caught on video, and the family is calling for the officers involved to be arrested! Daniel Prude was apprehended back in March, and passed away shortly after Rochester, NY police put a hood over his head, and ignored his plea for air.

In graphic body camera footage, Daniel can be seen in handcuffs with multiple officers surrounding him. Although he is already cuffed and on the ground, officers placed a hood over his head, as he screams: “Take this off my head, you’re trying to kill me!”

Despite begging officers to remove the hood, the officers ignore his plea, and continue to hold him to the ground. One officer, Troy Talladay, even puts a knee onto Prude’s back, while holding his head to the concrete. In just a few short minutes, Daniel Prude goes silent, and officers realize he is no longer breathing.

The officers continue to hold Daniel’s lifeless body to the ground, and they begin to speak about him vomiting water into the hood.

“My man, you puking?” one officer asks. “Ah man do you see all that water coming out? It’s just straight water.”

At this point, Daniel is no longer breathing, and the officers decide to roll him over on his side and try to give him chest compressions. The officers remove Daniel’s handcuffs and attempt to resuscitate him, with no success.

One of the EMT’s on the scene begins to suggest that Daniel may have been on PCP, which would’ve prompted him throwing up inside of the hood. She also tells the officers that the situation is “not their fault” because they need to “keep themselves safe.”

Daniel was placed on life support, and was removed one week after the arrest. He died on March 30 at the age of 41, the New York Times reports.

Joe Prude, Daniel’s brother, spoke out about the officers actions, calling the arrest “cold-blooded murder”.

“How many more brothers got to die for society to understand that this needs to stop?” he said.

We’ll continue to update you as the story develops, Roomies.

Unarmed and non-violent, Daniel Prude, who was just a few months older than me, got a train ticket from Chicago to visit his brother in Rochester, New York this past March. When his brother noticed that Daniel was clearly in some sort of distress, he called 911 for help. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Let me stop there. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Daniel’s brother should’ve been able to call 911 for medical help. We don’t have another number to call. He relayed to dispatch that his brother was struggling – not that anybody had been injured or assaulted – and that Daniel had just darted out of the front door, erratically, and that he was worried for him.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ THIS WAS NOT A CRIMINAL CALL. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Daniel needed doctors and nurses. He needed an ambulance. He needed medical attention. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ When police found him, Daniel was completely nude, and was clearly unarmed. He complied with police and literally told them he felt like they were trying to kill him. They put a mask on his face and cracked jokes about this man. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ They handcuffed him and had him surrounded. This was enough. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ But instead of getting him medical help, they did exactly what they did to George Floyd, WHICH KILLS PEOPLE. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ With his hands handcuffed behind his back, they put him on his stomach. That position alone is dangerous. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ They then proceeded to put hundreds of pounds of pressure on Daniel, as he begs them to stop. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Until he stops breathing. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ The coroner ruled his death a homicide and said it was death by asphyxiation – basically meaning that he was choked to death because of what police did to him. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I am grateful for the local activists from Free the People Roc in Rochester for supporting the family of Daniel Prude and for making sure this video saw the light of day. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Police and prosecutors have worked for 6 months to make sure nobody ever saw this video – and it clearly contradicts every single report they issued on the case. ⁣⁣
