#Roommates, it’s a #HotGirlSummer and many of us have already made a trip or two to the pool/water park to keep it cute in this heat.
Now there’s two water park staples we all know and love: the lazy river and the wave pool. Well, the latter was the scene for complete chaos when it malfunctioned and sent swimmers flying at a water park in China earlier this week.
At least 44 people were injured after the wave machine malfunctioned in a freak accident that was caught on video, @cbsnews reports. The video shows tourists enjoying themselves before a tsunami-sized wave suddenly crashes into them.
People can be seen running away from the wave while others who got caught up in it were tossed and landed on the pavement, injured and bloodied. At least five of the 44 people injured were hospitalized for fractured ribs.
Some speculated that an employee set the wave machine to its highest setting as some sort of revenge, but it was later discovered that the accident was the cause of an unfortunate malfunction.
“According to the initial stages of the investigation, the incident was caused by a power cut that damaged electronic equipment in the tsunami pool control room, which led to the waves in the tsunami pool becoming too big and injuring people,” read a notice posted on Chinese website Weibo, according to the South China Morning Post.
The water park staff closed the wave pool to make repairs and for officials to fully investigate the incident.
