Wendy Williams has always kept it realand her 61st birthday is no exception. The former daytime queen stepped out in New York City Thursday night looking fabulous as ever. But, behind the glam and smiles, she made it known that this birthday isnt just about cake and candles. Wendy had one thing on her mind, and she said it loud and clear: freedom.
Celebrating at the iconic Delmonicos steakhouse in NYC, Wendy was joined by two of her attorneys and her longtime friend and former executive producer, Suzanne Bass. TMZ caught her in high spirits, dressed to impress, and all smiles for the crowd outside. But, when asked what she wanted for her birthday, Wendy didnt hesitateher answer was simple: Out of guardianship.
Wendy Williams had the NYC streets on pause earlier this month. At the time, she was spotted out and about on July 2. Furthermore, she was caught mid-convo by content creator SpeakYourFit. Wendy turned heads in black pants, a floral blouse, a Yankees cap, and a Croc Birkin bag that gave full-on bougie vibes. Though she was a little caught off guard at first, Wendy quickly warmed up when asked questions about her style.
Meanwhile, her ex Kevin Hunter is stirring up serious drama behind the scenes. He filed a $250 million lawsuit in NYC federal court, naming 48 peopleincluding Wendys guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, and Wells Fargo. Kevins claiming Wendys been abused, neglected, and defrauded under the guardianship that began in 2022 after the bank froze her accounts. He says shes still sharp despite her diagnoses of Graves disease, aphasia, and frontotemporal dementia, pointing to a March competency test she reportedly passed. Oh, and hes even heated about her beloved rescue cats being sold without her consent. Now, Kevin wants her released from what he calls involuntary confinement, a new guardian appointed, and major money for damages.
Wendy’s comment is the latest in a string of public appeals about the court-ordered arrangement controlling her personal and financial decisions. The guardianship was initially put in place due to reported concerns about Wendys health and her ability to manage her affairs. However, Wendy has recently alluded to the financial mishaps being commited at the hands of her son by her own son. The former host claimed he had allegedly spent her money, a move she believes contributed to the legal takeover.
Since entering the conservatorship, Wendys life has changed drastically. Once known for her unfiltered hot takes and commanding presence on daytime TV, she has largely retreated from the spotlight. Her finances, daily routines, and major decisions have all been overseen by court-appointed guardians. And, Wendy claims they’ve limited her independence, raising ongoing concerns among fans and supporters.
