What was meant to be a birthday trip to Miami quickly turned into a devastating nightmare for one New Orleans family. A 26-year-old police officer and U.S. Army reservist, Wildelis Rosa, tragically lost her life following a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) surgery earlier this year — and now her family is speaking out in hopes of saving others from the same fate.

Police Officer Passes Away After BBL
According to reports, Wildelis Rosa flew to Miami in March to undergo a BBL surgery. The article further states that she paid $7,495 for the BBL at Prestige Plastic Surgery Clinic, having fat removed from 12 different areas and injected into her backside. But things took a turn after Wildelis was reportedly discharged just one hour after the procedure. It was revealed that her blood pressure dropped significantly, and she eventually lost circulation in her feet. And, her family had no idea she was planning the surgery — they believed she was simply heading to Miami to celebrate her 26th birthday.
What Went Wrong For Wildelis?
The day after her surgery, Wildelis allegedly complained of “extreme pain” and texted a friend that she was “experiencing complications.” On March 23, just one day after her birthday, she reportedly collapsed in the bathroom. Additionally, a friend staying with Wildelis reportedly found her unresponsive and attempted CPR, but it was too late. Furthermore, the Miami-Dade Medical Examiner later confirmed the cause of death was a pulmonary embolism caused by blood clots related to the surgery.
Her sister, Anamin Vazquez, reported that Wildelis told the family about the surgery three days after it took place. Opening up to NBC6 about what happened, she revealed:
“You know we had just that feeling in our guts like something is wrong,” she said, “I texted her and I said, ‘I hope you’re doing okay you’re enjoying your birthday.’ But there was no answer back.”
Wildelis’ Loved Ones Speak Out
Anamin also revealed that Wildelis had just returned from deployment in Kuwait and had dreams of working for the FBI. Additionally, the youngest of five siblings, Rosa was remembered as “bright” with a “promising future.” Now, her family is turning their heartbreak into a warning. “Let her story be a cautionary tale,” her sister urged others about understanding the risks behind elective cosmetic procedures.
“She had just come back from a deployment to Kuwait as a U.S. Army Reservist…she wanted to work for the FBI,” Anamin said. “That’s the part that we have to live with because it was unnecessary for her to die… like that.” She concluded with “I want her death to be, if anything, a cautionary tale for those who are thinking of having these surgeries.”
Additionally, the New Orleans police department shared a touching tribute on their Facebook page, saying:
“The New Orleans Police Department is heartbroken by the sudden passing of Officer Wildelis Rosa, a cherished member of our NOPD family,” they wrote. “While her passing was not related to active duty, this loss is deeply felt by all who had the privilege of working alongside her.”
