A Romanian court on Thursday rejected an appeal by Wiz Khalifa. The rapper asked the court to toss his nine-month jail sentence for drug possession, per the Associated Press. However, it rejected his appeal. Now, fans are wondering what happens next for the ‘Black & Yellow’ star.

Why Does Wiz Khalifa Have A Drug Charge In Romania?
Wiz Khalifa, whose real name is Cameron Jibril Thomaz, filed an appeal last month after being sentenced in December. Romanian police stopped the rapper in July 2024 after he allegedly smoked weed on stage at the ‘Beach, Please! Festival’ in Constanta County. Prosecutors said the rapper had more than 18 grams of cannabis on him and that he consumed some on stage. According to AP, the court convicted Khalifa of “possession of dangerous drugs, without right, for personal consumption.”
Rapper’s Appeal Denied In New Update
The appeals court on Thursday rejected Khalifa’s appeal to annul the sentence, labeling it inadmissible. Also, it ruled that a request to suspend the nine-month sentence was unfounded.
Wiz Khalifa’s December conviction came months after a lower court issued Khalifa a criminal fine of $830 for “illegal possession of dangerous drugs” in April. Prosecutors appealed that decision and sought a higher sentence, but the court ultimately imposed a nine-month sentence. Romania has some of the harshest drug laws in Europe. Possession of cannabis for personal use is criminalized and can result in a prison sentence of between three months and two years, or a fine.
What Happens Next?
The Associated Press contacted Khalifa’s representatives via email to request a comment on the latest legal developments, but has not yet received a response. It isn’t clear whether Romanian authorities will seek to file an extradition request. Wiz Khalifa is a U.S. citizen and doesn’t reside in Romania. However, the U.S. and Romania do have an active 2007 treaty that allows each nation to extradite citizens for dual-country criminal offenses punishable by up to one year. Since Wiz was only given nine months, it’s unclear if the treaty will apply to his case.
Most recently, Wiz appeared in a family snapshot with his ex-wife, Amber Rose, and their son, Sebastian, for his 13th birthday.
