Young Thug is back in the headlinesnot just for his music, but for finally breaking his silence on Kendrick Lamars scathing Drake diss, Not Like Us. In a new GQ interview, Thugger addressed Kendricks pointed Atlanta name-drops and made it clear where his loyalty stands.
Fresh off announcing his upcoming album UY Scuti and dropping its lead single Money on Money, Thugger sat down with GQs Zach Baron for a rare interview. He opened up about life behind bars and the ongoing rap beef thats had the industry talking. When asked if he kept up with the drama while locked up, Thug confirmed he was tuned in, particularly to Kendricks lyrical shots.
Yeah, [Kendrick] just spoke on people’s name in Atlanta, he said carefully. I don’t know what that was about. I’m a Drake fan.
For those who missed it, Kendrick didnt hold back on the third verse of Not Like Us, accusing Drake of leaning on Atlanta artists to boost his image and streaming power. He name-dropped a whole lineupFuture, Lil Baby, 21 Savage, Quavo, 2 Chainz, and of course, Thug himself:
“Thug made you feel like you a slime in your head…”
Though Thug didnt directly address the beef, his comments made it clear whose side hes on. Last year, he even called for unity between Drake, Future, and Metro Boomin, tweeting, We all bruddas. Music aint the same without us collabin.
Social media is in a frenzy after Young Thug finally addressed Kendrick Lamar name-dropping him in the viral Drake diss. Fans ran to The Shade Room Instagram comment section to voice their opinions.
One Instagram user @bry.heiim wrote, “We all [are] Drake fans Kendrick just had a good year. Nobody is playing Kendrick over Drake and thugs looks ”
Instagram user @lansa.jpg added, “Thugga basically said dont bring my name up, im team drake. ”
And, Instagram user @yousefabooz_ wrote, “It’s been a whole year can we let the song go please”
Meanwhile, Instagram user @y2k_dot wrote, “sweetheart kendrick doesnt need you to agree he said what he said.”
While Instagram user @kylahmonai said, “Honey Kendrick was defending yall saying drake is trying to use yall… Not sure how you didn’t see it lol ”
And, Instagram user @thedigitalmagazine.k commented, “He said ‘I’m a Drake fan’ like it wasn’t already obvious. you dressed like a whole Drake playlist.”
Drake and Young Thug’s friendship spans years and includes multiple collaborations. Word on the street is that Drake mightve made a very generous move for his longtime friend following his release from jail. According to DJ Akademiks, Drizzy allegedly hopped on Air Drake and flew out to meet Thugger just hours after he was freedand he didnt come empty-handed. During a livestream, Akademiks claimed the 6 God gifted Thug a cool $1 million in cash as a welcome home gift.
They say two hours afterward, Drake flew to Thug and allegedly gave him a [million dollars], Akademiks shared. Drake didnt tell me this. Drake gon hit me up and be, like, Who told you this?
This isnt too far-fetched, considering Drake has consistently shown love and support to Thug throughout his YSL RICO trial. In October, Drizzy subtly hinted at financially supporting him through an Instagram Stories post in Thugs SP5DER brand. He wrote, I aint talking to talk man I really put up on the 3 Jeff.
While other artists distanced themselves from Drake amid his fiery feud with Kendrick Lamar, Thug remained loyal. Young Thug also seemingly showed love after Drake secured the No. 1 spot with his latest collab project alongside PartyNextDoor in February.
Now that hes outafter striking a plea deal that gave him 15 years probationthis moment might be another reminder of the bond between these two rap heavyweights.
