NBA Commissioner, Adam Silver Says Standing For The National Anthem Is The ‘Appropriate Thing To Do’

The official start to the 2016-2017 NBA season is quickly approaching, and with the recent protesting against the National Anthem. Many people have been wondering if they would see some of their favorite basketball players join the protest once the season starts.

According to ESPN, the NBA commissioner, Adam Silver shared his thoughts on whether or not players are expected to join the protest.

Recently at the NBA’s board of governors meeting, he said, “I don’t know if the players are organizing anything. All I can say is what we have seen in multiple preseason games so far is our players standing for the national anthem. It would be my hope that they continue to stand for the national anthem. I think that is the appropriate thing to do.”

Over the summer Carmelo Anthony, Dwyane Wade, Chris Paul and Lebron James took the stage at the 2016 Espy Awards, calling for other athletes to bring about social change within our communities.

Their message came after the senseless killings that occurred in Dallas, Baton Rouge and Minnesota.

Silver also mentioned that these issues have been thought about, and he has been thinking of ways for the NBA community to bring about change.

“So aside from discussions around the anthem, it is my expectation that as we move beyond the collective bargaining [negotiating] process, that we and the players together will continue to address these issues and look for opportunities where we can really make a difference.”

Roommates what are your thoughts?
