Megan Thee Stallion is finally giving details about her breakup with Klay Thompson, four months after the news shocked the Hotties. At the time, she teased the split in a social media statement, before later confirming it. The breakup led to her early exit from her debut Broadway appearance in ‘Moulin Rouge.’ Recently, in a cover story for InStyle Magazine, Megan explained how the end of the romance felt and where she stands now.

Megan Says Split From Klay Thompson Was “Very Rough”
In her sit-down with InStyle, Meg was as candid about wanting to expand her Hot Girl Universe as her breakup. She admitted to journalist Jason Sheeler that she’s still “trying [her] best” about how she’s feeling now. The interview, by the way, took place in mid-July.
“I feel like I’ve been put through the washing machine and the dryer with tins, shovels and a cactus,” Thee Stallion told InStyle.
She further explained that the split was “very rough,” but trailed off in thought before explaining what part “especially.” Additionally, she implied to the outlet that she constantly felt uncomfortable, trying to belong where she shouldn’t. Back in July, when the interview happened, she said she was locked in on finding Megan Thee Stallion instead of trying to fit herself into Klay Thompson’s life.
“How do I want to say this gently? What’s meant for you is always going to work out. And if something is constantly making you feel uncomfortable, just on edge all the time, you probably are not supposed to be there. God will always make you uncomfortable when something is not meant for you. I think I just kept trying to make pieces fit that didn’t belong, trying to fit myself into someone else’s life. I was losing myself a little bit. I am now in the space of finding me again,” Megan told InStyle.
As a single woman in July, Megan told the outlet she hasn’t “smiled so much in so long.” She explained: “Like, I’m outside twirling in the grass like, ‘Wow, it’s a beautiful day outside!'”
What Did Thee Stallion Previously Say About Her Breakup?
As said, on April 25, Megan Thee Stallion gagged internet users when she hinted at the end of her romance with Klay Thompson. Up until that point, the Hotties often praised the NBA baller for his apparent affection for the Houston rapper. They quickly became a celeb couple to keep up with, from her date recap videos to rumors of them buying a home and moving in together. Then, in her initial breakup statement, she shattered the public perception of being a perfect couple. She spoke cheating while having her around his family “playing house.” Megan also accused Klay, without naming him, of having “horrible mood swings” and “treatment” of her during the basketball season. “…Now you don’t know if you can be ‘monogamous,'” she wrote in the Instagram Story post.
Soon after her social media post, Megan Thee Stallion alleged cheating in a statement to TMZ about Klay Thompson:
“I’ve made the decision to end my relationship with Klay. Trust, fidelity, and respect are non-negotiable for me in a relationship, and when those are compromised, there’s no real path forward.” She continued, “I’m taking this time to prioritize myself and move ahead with peace and clarity,” Meg told TMZ in April.
Klay Thompson has never addressed the breakup, but a few days after Megan aired him out, he made a rare move. The pro-athlete got on Instagram Live while boating and vibing to music. Then, in May, Meg teased a new track that seemed to shade the split.

While speaking to InStyle in July, Megan also clarified the one thing she won’t tolerate in love: disrespect. She said, “You will not disrespect me. And you will be thankful. Period.” Additionally, Thee Stallion explained that she cannot be a person who isn’t her and she can’t choose not to work. “I cannot not go to work. I’m going to be Megan Thee Stallion,” she told InStyle. A homebody she is not, Megan clarified.
“I love being me. I love rapping. I love interacting with my fans. I love shooting music videos. I’m not a person who is in the house 24-7. I’m never going to be that. And whoever dates me is gonna have to just understand, like, she is her own person. She’s her own boss. I cannot be minimized,” Thee Stallion said.
Furthermore, Megan said the experience with Klay Thompson taught her that she wants an equal, and who she doesn’t want.
“I will not be behind any man. I will have a partner. I will be equals with my partner. I’m never gonna take the backseat to anything. So just going forward, I think I’ve just learned this is the type of person that I want to be with, this is what I will tolerate, this is what I won’t tolerate. And if you can’t take that, we just gotta respectfully go our separate ways.”
Thee Stallion, real name Megan Pete, also recognizes that “somebody not seeing your value doesn’t make your value go down.” She said: “People cheating on you, that doesn’t have anything to do with you. You’re not less attractive. You’re not less of a good person. Even though it might feel like that. Oh my gosh, why me? Why am I not enough? Cause it could definitely feel like, Why am I not enough?”
