‘Abbott Elementary’ Set To Launch Free Book Fairs For Low-Income Schools In Partnership With Scholastic Books

#Roommates, ‘Abbott Elementary’ is the runaway hit show that has everyone talking and now a host of students are going to benefit from the series’ popularity. It was just announced that ‘Abbott Elementary’ is not only giving back, but also encouraging lower-income students to read by launching a set of free book fairs this month.

@Variety reports, hit series ‘Abbott Elementary’ along with ABC network, has officially partnered with Scholastic Books to be the very first entertainment brand to provide under-funded schools with free book fairs throughout the country. Beginning on March 14th and running until March 18th, each book fair will take place at seven select Title 1 schools, where each student will receive two books of their choice and each teacher will receive 10 books. The first school on the list is ‘Abbott Elementary’ creator Quinta Brunson’s alma mater, Harrity Elementary in Philadelphia. Other schools include, Diehl Elementary in Erie, Pennsylvania., Bond Elementary in Chicago, Dayton’s Bluff Elementary in Minneapolis, Freeman Elementary in Flint, Michigan and Cortada Elementary and Florence Griffith Joyner Elementary in Los Angeles.

In addition to the free book fairs, ABC also announced the relaunch of its Traveling Teacher’s Lounge initiative, that provides teachers across the U.S. with Scholastic Books, class supplies, breakfast and merchandise from ‘Abbott Elementary’ merchandise. The launch initially began back in January with visiting schools in Philadelphia, New York, New Jersey and Maryland—where a massive 1,000 books, 10,000 notebooks, 100,000 writing utensils and 15,000 art and craft materials were all donated. With the relaunch, Houston is next on March 11th, followed by Santa Fe on March 15th, Phoenix March 16th, Reno March 18th and ends on March 22nd in Los Angeles.

Speaking about the uplifting project, ABC & General Executive Vice President of Marketing, Erin Weir had the following to say:

“‘Abbott Elementary’ shines light on and reflects the experiences and challenges faced by our country’s educators. We had an extraordinary opportunity and responsibility to amplify that mission in our series marketing efforts. Giving back to this deserving community has been a pillar of our campaign from day one, and thanks to several incredible partnerships, like our collaboration with Scholastic, we’ve had the great fortune of celebrating teachers through supply donations, grassroots activations and more, while also sharing the joy of our hilarious new comedy.”

Meanwhile, fans of ‘Abbott Elementary’ continue to wait for the series to return, as it has been on a brief hiatus. Although, the wait is only guaranteed to increase ratings further, as the series has quadrupled its ratings since its premiere late last year.
