There was a major pileup in York County, VA on Interstate 64 that has left dozens of people injured, in what appears to be a chain-reaction accident.
According to NBC News, the accident, which took place Sunday morning, resulted in at least 35 people being injured as the 63-vehicle wreck shut down the traffic on Interstate 64.
Authorities are still investigating what led to the accident, however, state police say there were fog and ice conditions on the Queens Creek Bridge when the accident took place at about 7:51 a.m.
The injuries that were sustained in the accident range from minor to life-threatening. There have been no fatalities reported. A spokesperson for Riverside Regional Medical Center said that they were treating 25 of the people that were injured, one who was in serious condition.
Both lanes were shut down before authorities were able to open up the east-bound lanes early Sunday morning. People have been encouraged to avoid the highway.
As many of you know, it is the holiday season, so many people are traveling on the highway in their vehicles. Roommates, please be sure to travel safely.
