Claressa Shields is shutting down all the online chatter about her glow-up, and she’s not holding back either. The boxing champ went viral after a throwback pic from her teenage years had folks on X reacting in all sorts of ways, with some swearing her man Papoose is behind her new transformation. But Claressa? She’s calling cap! Sis says she’s been serving looks since 21, and Pap isn’t the reason for her shine.

Claressa Shields Sets The Record Straight On Her Glow-Up
On Wednesday, May 28, Claressa hopped on Instagram to clear the air. In a video obtained by LiveBitez, the 30-year-old champ addressed claims that Papoose has been helping her with outfits, getting her hair done, and adjusting her makeup routine. Claressa says that couldn’t be further from the truth.
“Y’all looking at pictures from when I was 17 and comparing them to now, saying, ‘Oh, this is before Pap, and this is after Pap.’ No,” Claressa said.

She doubled down, reminding everyone she’s been a “fly bad a*s chick” since her early 20s. “It’s a reason why he’s attracted to me,” she added, clocking the haters.
To drive her point home, Claressa took us back to the exact moment she met Papoose. She recalled THIS photo, in which she wore denim shorts and a pink top at a sports event. “I was already stepping on necks before Pap came through,” she said. Claressa made it clear she and Papoose add value to each other’s lives. “We make each other better,” she admitted, but she was quick to shut down the narrative that her glow-up is all thanks to him. “Love you down, but no. C’mon,” she said.

What Initially Sparked The Conversation
As mentioned, the topic came up when some throwback pictures of Claressa from her teenage years went viral on the internet. These photos were from when she was around 15 to 17 and rocking a short haircut. The timeline was flooded with comments claiming Claressa didn’t have style until Papoose stepped into the picture, and that the old pics were supposedly proof of that.
Claressa caught wind of the chatter and wasn’t having it. She slid onto X with a couple of post-and-delete tweets captured by GotDaScoop.
“So the picture of me when I was 15 and I had cut my hair…. I keep seeing it. Who posted it…. Now as I’m asking this….just know, once I got my answer it’s go time,” she wrote, tossing in three laughing emojis.
She followed up, revealing that singer Fantasia inspired the short haircut. “I love that picture. I was so happy I cut my hair. I’ve always wanted short hair like Fantasia, so I cut it!”
