Davido Confirms Welcoming Twins One Year After Son Died

Davido Confirms He Welcomed Twins With His Wife Almost One Year After Their Son’s Passing

Davido and his wife, Chioma Rowland, are celebrating joyous news as the first anniversary of their son’s passing approaches. The couple welcomed twins this month, a daughter and a son, per BBC.

Video of the couple leaving the hospital with Chioma cradling their newborns in her arms made its social media rounds over the weekend. The clip shows the smiling couple as a man, believed to be the children’s grandfather, records.

According to the video, Chioma and the twins were discharged from an Atlanta hospital. Viewers saw a peek at “grandpa’s” Bentley, with two car seats placed in the backseat for the twins’ “first car ride.”

Davido also confirmed their growing family while reportedly speaking to an audience at a  UnitedMasters SelectCon event in New York on Saturday (Oct. 14). According to Vibe, the international superstar was one of the event’s headliners.

Last year, The Shade Room reported that Davido and Chioma lost their 3-year-old David Ifeanyi Adeleke in a drowning accident on Oct. 31. Early reports of the incident stated that Davido and Chioma were not present when the unfortunate incident occurred at their Lagos residence. It had been about two weeks since the family celebrated his third birthday on Oct. 20.

Davido Calls The Birth Of His Twins A “Blessing”

On Saturday, Davido told the conference audience that welcoming their twins feels like a “blessing.” When they first found out, the singer says he and his wife “were shaking,” especially given their birth month in relation to their late brother.

“It’s very hard. A lot of people who those things happen to, you would never want to believe in God ever in your life. I’m telling you, but to still have faith and to still be able to do what I love, having a great team around me and just focusing. Now we’re almost at the finish line, and it’s a story that I want people to see and watch.”

The results of a Lagos investigation into the death of David Ifeanyi Adeleke remains unclear.

In April, Davido echoed his sentiments about returning to music after his son’s passing. Speaking to CNN, he said his latest album “Timeless” was completed before his son died, but it still went through three phases — before the death, during, and after.

“At the end of the day, people would want David to be on stage eventually. People would want me to be able to make the thousands of people happy that I do on a daily. I know that deep down that’s what people would have wanted. Obviously, like, I really had to really really calm myself down, take a step back and this has showed me that I was really born to do music. Cause this situation would break anybody. I don’t care how talented you are, I don’t care how you love it so. This situation has showed me that for us to be able to come back and regroup ourselves, gather ourselves, and be strong enough to deliver this record, I feel like that’s what we’re brought to do in this world.”

As previously reported by The Shade Room, the couple first re-appeared on Instagram in December 2022. In the CNN interview, Davido revealed he could not open his IG page for weeks after his son died. However, he said their public support is “one thing” that helped him “stand up again” and “get back in the studio.”

“One thing that I’d say has helped was the support from everybody, even people that I haven’t spoken to in years. It’s just that nobody would want that. And everybody knows that me and Chioma didn’t deserve that, if anybody in the world, we didn’t deserve that.”
